Asseco Prokom Gdynia downed Unicaja Malaga on their court 70:50 to stay at the top of Group G. Qyntel Woods and Ronnie Burrell combined for 33 points to lead Polish Champs to crucial victory on Wednesday night.

Tomas Pacesas, yet another time surprised the rivals with different lineup. David Logan, Przemysław Zamojski, Qyntel Woods, Adam Hrycaniuk and Jan Hendrik Jagla started the match. It does not matter who starts for Polish Champs, players understand each other very well and after few minutes it was 8:0 for the visitors! Malaga shook off from the bad start and trimmed the lead to 2 points. But Qyntel responded with two baskets, Varda added a three point play and it was 15:6 for the Gdynia’s team. However Unicaja outscored Asseco 7:2 in the final minutes and cut the lead to 4 points.

Burrell buried two treys and added a three point play. Polish Champs dominated offensive and defensive boards. Pacesas let Szczotka and Ewing in. Behind their plays Asseco stretched the lead to 33:18. Unfortunately Unicaja again focused in the quarter’s final minutes and closed the half on a 9:0 run that put them back in the game. Asseco had a 37:33 lead at halftime.

Recently struggling Jagla showed some signs of old good himself at the beginning of the second half to stretch Polish Champs lead. Unicaja responded quickly and got within 2 points. We have Qyntel and Logan though. First Woods blocked Welsch and added two free throws, Logan netted a trey, Qyntel hugely denied Cook and Logan with all his finesse scored two points. This time Asseco dominated the final minutes of the quarter and on a 10:0 run rested the lead back 49:40 going into the final 10 minutes.

Both teams went scoreless in the first three minutes of the fourth. Rodriguez finally broke the score. With about 6 minutes to play Pacesas called for timeout. Both teams tightened their defense. As Unicaja had problems executing in the offense, Asseco players had no problems in receiving the fouls and extended their lead from the free throw line. It was 45:57 with 3 and a half minutes to play mainly because of great Qyntel all round performance. Unicaja could not respond. Qyntel finished the alleyoop on a Ewing’s dish and after another Mamphis’ player points it was 67:47 for Polish Champs. Malaga managed to reach 50 points behind Cook’s basket from far away, but they did not manage to please sell-out crowd who booed them at the end of the game. Polish Team reached for the historic second consecutive win in TOP16 and is one step closer two play-off berth.
