Asseco tops PBG Basket

Asseco Prokom Gdynia beat PBG Basketem Poznań 87:79 to remain undefeated in the league. Four Polish Champs players scored in double figures. Varda 19, Burrell 17, Logan 15 and Szczotka 14. At the beginning of the game both teams had to fight hard for every point. After 6 minutes, hosts took a one possession edge on Burrell jumper. Varda was active in the paint and both Poznań big men had early foul troubles. Asseco outscored visitors in the final minutes of the period to close the quarter on top 19:13.

After 3 minutes into the second quarter visitors hold 22:21 advantage. Logan responded with 5 consecutive points but it was not enough, PBG was leading as many as 36:29 midway through the second term. Defense is an answer for every troubles. After a period of tight defensive play which led to easy fast break points Asseco trimmed the lead to 41:40 at the halftime.

Polish Champs opened the next 20 minutes with a 16:3 run behind Ratko Varda performance who had 7 points in that span. Asseco controlled the score to the end of the quarter and took a 63:53 lead going into the final ten minutes.

In the fourth Asseco Prokom controlled the game and hold double digit lead. Both PBG Basket C got fouled out by then. Adam Waczyński tried to put visitors back in the game, but it was not enough for Polish Champs that night.
