Gdynia vs. Minsk

Sunday, 04 March 2012 13:33 | Przemysław Szulc
Asseco Prokom Gdynia - VTBIn their next to last VTB clash of the season Polish Champs host the best Belarusian team, BK Minsk 2006. XV round match tips off at 19:00 CET.

After Saturday's game against Zielona Gora, Andrzej Adamek team hasn't got much time to regenerate before Monday's showdown. Game against Belarus three time Champions (Reigning Champs since 2009) will be next to the last regular season VTB game. There is only one match left which is scheduled for next Saturday against Spartak in Petersburg.

Minsk's team record tells us a lot about the strength of their league. In VTB BK won only one game of fourteen played. Situation in their domestic league is totally reversed. One loss and seventeen victories! We definitely cannot say that BK Minsk doesn't know how to play against international teams. In Eurochallenge they played six games and won 50% of them, against Turk Telekom, Telekom Bonn and Pinar Karsiyaka. Conclusion can be one and only, Belarusians are very unpredictable team.

Most of the team is combined of people with Poland past. Head Coach, Andrei Krivonos played as a player for: Tarnow, Slupsk and Bydgoszcz. SG Aleksander Kudriawcew is team best scorer with 13 points per game. C veteran, Oleg Kozeniec in the past played for Slupsk, Wroclaw and Warszawa. Most familiar to Gdynia fans should be Courtney Eldridge, American playmaker who represented Prokom last year and also played for Kager, Starogard Gdanski and Kwidzyn in his previous seasons.Team comprises of two Americans: Justin Knox and Bobby Maze. Other international players on the roster include: Russian Alesandr Fomin and Lithuanians Ronaldas Rutkauskas and Justinas Sinica.

On October 31st, yellow and blue got their highest margin win, 92:60 against Minsk. Will they repeat that good performance tomorrow? Polish Champs need to win to keep their playoff chance alive.
