 In the Euroleague eighth round Asseco Prokom welcomes KK Union Olimpia Ljubljana. Visitors will arrive to Poland without couple of regular starters. Will Polish Champs use it and get their first Euroleague win of the season?
Gdynia team schedule has been quite packed recently. Game against Olimpia will be their third match within week's period. And on Saturday Polish Champs will take on Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius. Olimpia arrived to Gdynia without a couple of starters. On the squad of accustomed Slovenia Champions (17 championships since 1992! ) we will not see former Asseco Prokom C, Ratko Varda who moved to Azovmash. Other players that left the financial troubled franchise are: Ben Woodside and Danny Green. Coach Saso Filipovski (37) known in Poland for his couple of years work with Turow Zgorzelec has got ten players on the roster. Dino Muric is also out due to injury. Despite the turmoil Olimpia has always been very dangerous team which fights hard and tomorrow we cannot expect anything else from them. Filipovski updated roster: experienced defender Aleksander Capin (29/186), leader Jaka Blazic (21/193). Finn Sasu Salina (20/190) who is one of the biggest promises of Scandinavian basketball. Low post Davis Bertans (19/205), American Deon Thompson (23/203), Israel Boris Rothbart (23/217) and Croatian Damir Markota (26/208), the latter, if in form, can harm opponents from every place on the court. Rest of the roster is composed of players who haven't played in Euroleague this season yet. Among them is one of the Prokom former leader, Goran Jagodnik (37/202) KK Union Olimpija, as Prokom, received a waiver from first part of domestic season. They play in Euroleague and Adriatic league. In the latter they are on the fourth place with 7 wins and 3 losses. In former they've won only one game, at home over Prokom (70:62). Fans expect that Tomas Pacesas team will avenge that loss and get their first Euroleague win. "We lost in Slovenia, now in front of our home crowd, we will try to take revenge. We respect our rivals and we know that there is long way to the win ahead of us." - said cautiously APG Head Coach. Game tips off this Wednesday at 20:45CET in Gdynia Sport Arena. |
